Modern slavery & ethical working policy

1. Statement of commitment

Murmuration Systems Ltd is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships. We fully support the aims of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and take a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain.

Although we are a micro-business and below the statutory reporting threshold, we voluntarily adopt this policy to demonstrate our commitment to ethical and responsible business practices.

2. Information about our organisation and supply chains

Murmuration Systems Ltd is a UK-registered consultancy specialising in taxonomy, ontology, and systems thinking. We work with clients in healthcare, digital, and non-profit sectors.

Our supply chain is limited and primarily consists of:

  • International software and technology providers: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Dashlane, Bitdefender, Notion, Zoom, Adobe, Miro, Airtable, FreeAgent, Jotform, and Ghost. These are established multinational organisations subject to the UK Modern Slavery Act or equivalent legislation in their jurisdictions, and all publish annual Modern Slavery or Corporate Responsibility statements.
  • UK-based services: A regulated insurance provider and a micro-business accountancy firm.

3. Policies relating to modern slavery

  • We maintain this Modern Slavery & Ethical Working Policy.
  • We only work with suppliers able to demonstrate compliance with modern slavery legislation.
  • We require all staff, associates, and contractors to act in line with our zero-tolerance stance on slavery and human trafficking.

4. Areas of risk in our business and supply chains

The risk of modern slavery in our operations is very low, given the professional and digital nature of our work.

  • Lower risk: UK-based insurance and accountancy services.
  • Relatively higher risk: International software providers operating across multiple jurisdictions. The risk is mitigated because all are large, regulated organisations with published Modern Slavery Statements.

5. Due diligence processes

  • We maintain an annual Supplier Due Diligence Checklist, reviewing all key suppliers for modern slavery risks and confirming their published statements where applicable.
  • We only contract with reputable suppliers who demonstrate compliance with modern slavery legislation.
  • Any concerns identified during supplier review are documented and escalated to the Director for action.

6. Training and awareness

  • All staff and associates are briefed on this policy at induction.
  • We provide an annual reminder of our zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and how to escalate any concerns.

7. Key performance indicators

To measure the effectiveness of our approach, we track:

  • 100% of key suppliers reviewed annually using our Supplier Due Diligence Checklist.
  • 100% of staff and associates inducted with awareness of modern slavery and this policy.
  • 0 incidents tolerated — any potential concerns must be escalated immediately.

8. Reporting concerns

Any concerns relating to modern slavery or unethical practices can be reported directly to the Director. Where necessary, matters will be escalated to the relevant authorities.

9. Continuous improvement

We are committed to reviewing this policy and our supplier relationships annually to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
